About The Robert West House

The Robert West Heritage House, as 7780 Yonge Street is known, is the only house in Thornhill to be continuously inhabited by the same family since it was built. Robert Arthur West (1816 - 1884), an English immigrant, came to Upper Canada in the 1830s.

Donations

The Thornhill Heritage Foundation is a registered Ontario Charity, created to refurbish and maintain the classic Robert West Heritage House, circa 1843.

This is a very expensive task.  While the property is being maintained through donations from friends, the Directors and the rental part of the House, it is proving more difficult to develop it in the way the donor would have liked, namely as a museum and community space honouring Thornhill's heritage.

To preserve this part of Thornhill's history, we respectfully ask for donations by corporations and individuals.  The Foundation, as a registered charity, will provide tax receipts.

Donations of financial securities are most welcome! Under CRA tax rules, a security may be donated at current market value (the charitable receipt value) with NO CAPITAL GAINS TAX payable by the donor, nor by the Foundation.  Bequests are also welcome and we will place a permanent plaque to commemorate the donor.

If you require any more information on this or wish to make a donation, please contact us.  Many thanks for your attention and consideration.
