About The Robert West House

The Robert West Heritage House, as 7780 Yonge Street is known, is the only house in Thornhill to be continuously inhabited by the same family since it was built. Robert Arthur West (1816 - 1884), an English immigrant, came to Upper Canada in the 1830s.

About Mrs. Keith

Katherine Louisa Keith (nee West) was born in Toronto in 1912. She was the great grandaughter of Robert West and became his last living descendent.

 

In 2008, with her advancing age, she decided that the best way to ensure that the house was preserved was to donate it

Exhibit 4
 
You are invited to our latest exhibit:
"Time, Travel & Rulers of the 20th Century" 
on display at the 
Robert West Heritage House, 7780 Yonge Street, Thornhill.  
The event runs from Sept. 7 to Oct. 13 (weekends only) 
between 12 pm & 3 pm. 
Admission is free ... however, a small donation is most appreciated.
 
 
Our previous events included:
  • 100th Anniversary of the Group of Seven Display & Art Contest
  • Rock, Paper and Wireless (Means of Communication)
  • Thornhill West Side Stories (History of the West Family, Store & House) and a
  • Co-sponsored the THS Mystery Bus Trip to Prince Edward County.
 
THF's exhibits/events are created and organized by volunteers and Board Members of the Thornhill Heritage Foundation being established in 2008.  It's our aim to be known as a Thornhill Community learning and exhibit centre. 

 

 
 
If your family or friends participated in our "Pick a Picket" fund raising program, you can now view your name plaque on the rebuilt white picket fence.  It's not too late to purchase a "Pick a Picket" plaque in honour of your family or loved ones.
 
Under the guidance of Daphne Van Ginkel, our Head Gardener, the existing gardens surrounding the heritage house are coming to life again. Come and see for yourself.
